Kilkenny Primary
June 12, 26 and July 3 The Port Adelaide Community Youth Program visited Kilkenny Primary. Not only was it the staff and students of the school that were excited but Power players, Daniel Motlop and Alipate Carlile were also excited about making two visits to the school.
During their first visit to Kilkenny Primary, Motlop and Carlile met some very enthusiastic students, and the teachers, who are very big Port supporters, were just as excited as the students, which made the players keen to return.
The students showed they’d been listening to the players and learnt how important exercise is for their young, growing bodies. The kids showed the players some great examples of the exercise they can do during ad breaks on TV. After the kids had shown the players their exercise they wanted to see a little something from the players, in particular a little something from Daniel Motlop. Mots had just returned from hospital after his shoulder operation and the students were all keen to see the scar!
The final week of three wrapped up with Matt Thomas and Ryan Willits visiting Kilkenny. During their visit they experienced some hard hitting decision making with the Year 7 students.
Ocean View College
Ocean View College is well known to the Port Adelaide Football club, as their Clown Troupe has performed in Planet Teal Zone at AAMI Stadium.
Tom Logan, Greg Bentley and Adelaide Lightening star, Erin Phillips visited the ‘School by the sea’ and caught up with the year 6 and 7 students and there wasn’t a clown in sight. With the reputation for producing some good clowns the sport-stars were very keen to see what else the students could do.
The kids were full of energy, and were very good at open discussion on the topics presented. Not only were the Power players impressed with the energy and discussion skills of the students, they also liked the colour of their school uniform, TEAL!
Seaview Downs Primary School
The Power Community Youth Program made the journey to Seaview Downs on June 26, and the July 3.
The Seaview Downs Primary students really impressed the players with their knowledge about smoking and cigarettes. Their teachers had taught them the exact chemicals found in cigarettes and the students could all tell the players why they’re so dangerous. The students told the players chemicals such as toluene (moth balls), methanol (rocket fuel) and ammonia (floor cleaner) were all found in cigarettes.
Tom Logan, Greg Bentley and netballer, Jane Poole really enjoyed being at the school. The kids were really well behaved and wanted to learn. Greg Bentley thought the classes were better behaved than the whole Power football team put together!
The Seaview Downs students were also very committed to goal setting and being active. One class has even set weekly goals on how many laps they can run around the school. On July 3, the whole class achieved their goals and some students completed the laps for the first time. Well done!
Each term the teachers have an opportunity to be involved in the program and win tickets to a Power game. Term Two’s winner is Suzi Vladiminov from Blair Athol Primary School.
